The Bass Rock, a mile off the East Lothian coast at Tantallon Castle, is home to more than 150,000 Gannets and is the largest single rock gannetry in the world. And I confess to an obsession with it!
The scientific name for the Northern Gannet, Sula Bassana, honours the Bass and the gannets show their appreciation by ‘painting’ the top white. The lower ledges of the rock are used by guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, puffins and gulls, not to mention seals. Currently uninhabited, the rock’s history includes being settled by an early Christian hermit, hosting a fortress which became a prison for Covenanters, and the construction of a lighthouse in 1902.
Please note, the framed image is a mock-up because I haven’t worked out how to photograph through glass – my frames are actually nicer than the mock-up. They’re slightly textured, made of wood and glass. Your print will be numbered, titled and signed on the print and on the mount.
My Bass Rock and Puffin is also available on a few products, for example a tote bag, a soft velvety cushion, an enamel camping mug or a tea towel
The images on this site are RGB, so your print will differ slightly due to screen calibration and colour mode.
Gift wrapping can be added at the cart. I use coloured kraft paper and paper ribbon (entirely recyclable). I’ll also write your message in one of my greetings cards.
Local collection: if you opt for Haddington pick-up in the shipping options, I’ll email you the address.
