Macmillan Publishing illustration and design
To celebrate four hundred years since Shakespeare’s birth, Macmillan Publishing commissioned me to create a set of his characters in the style of the Macmillan Young Reader man icon. Here are a few of my favourite illustrations from the series, from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliette, the Merchant of Venice, Much ado about Nothing and Hamlet:
Macmillan also commissioned to create a set of illustrations to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the original Alice in Wonderland publication. The project involved lots of individual character illustration, a pack of playing cards, resource materials for teachers, a game of snakes and ladders, a brochure, masks of the characters for craft projects… dream job! This banner was used in emails about the broader 150 celebration project:
Many of my character illustrations take the postures of the original Tenniel illustrations, the remit being to celebrate them.
