The Great Wave off North Berwick (after Hokusai)
I had this image in my head for a few years before finally making it – I love Hokusai‘s Great Wave off Kanagawa, and sometimes when we’re out rowing in rough seas I picture myself in it! So I finally made my own coastal rowing version. Mount Fuji is replaced with North Berwick Law in the background, and the fishing boats are replaced with our skiffs (Boatie Blest, North Berwick and Dunbar clubs in this one). I may have ad-libbed by adding a gull.
My North Berwick Great Wave is available as a limited edition (one of 50) giclee print in my shop. The image is 30 x 40cm; once mounted it’s 40 x 50cm. The images below are mock-ups because I haven’t worked out how to photograph glass – your print will be numbered, titled and signed.
I also have some products with my wave illustration: an enamel camping mug, a ceramic mug (5oz and 10oz) and a placemat which forms part of a mix-your-own set of East Lothian placemats. There’s also a greetings card and a tea towel.
